A cast, copper-alloy buckle of 11th- or 12th-century date. It has a D-shaped frame, retaining a wire pin with a wrap-around hinge fixing a small rectangular plate of copper alloy between the hinge and crossbar. The frame is triangular in section in the outer frame, but circular in section on its sides. The crossbar is obscured by the pin and plate. Compare NMS-FC0040.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Post Medieval buckle, c. 1575-1700 AD. The remains consist of a double loop asymmetrical buckle from with lobed knops on the external corners of the rectangular loop, at either end of the strap bar and at two symmetrical points on the outer edge of the rounded loop. It has a narrowed strap bar; the pin is missing. The condition of the metal surface is very poor, with a large degree of corrosion and uneven green and orange-red colouration. The buckle frame measures 26.34 mm long, 17.45 mm wide at square loop end, 17.51 mm wide at circular loop end, 2…

An incomplete cast copper alloy Post Medieval buckle, c. 1620-1680 AD. The remains of the buckle consists of a double loop trapezoidal buckle frame. The frame is decorated with a bifid narrow end with ovoid knops on the corners of the frame; the other is a quatrefoil wide end with large lobed knops on the end of winged extensions. A narrowed strap bar and the interior edge of the short end of the frame exhibits a large degree of iron corrosion, suggesting that the missing pin was composed of iron. The frame measures 28.85 mm long, 39.38 mm wide at the wider end of the frame, 22.04…

An incomplete cast copper alloy Post Medieval sub-rectangular shoe or knee buckle, c. 1660-c. 1720 AD. The remains of the buckle consist of a drilled frame, which would have held a separate spindle. The frame is decorated on the outer face with moulded decoration including moulded transverse lines and a knop at either end of the spindle bar; a sub-triangular knop projects on the interior side of the outer frame edges. The entire buckle is curved slightly convex to fit more comfortably against the body. The underside is undecorated. Iron corrosion is visible at either spindle hol…

A cast copper-alloy pin of Medieval date (c. 1250 - c. 1400), with an oval loop at one end, which has become detached from an annular buckle or possibly brooch. The pin is D-shaped in cross-section with flat bottom and rounded top. It narrows slightly throughout its length from the loop towards the tip. The tip is undercut slightly. On the top of the shaft, near the junction with the loop there is a raised transverse line. The loop is probably incomplete asit is only 2/3rds of a circle. The pin is 36.2mm long including the loop, 10.5mm wide and 4.5mm thick; it weighs 2.96 grams. The…
