An incomplete medieval cast copper alloy buckle plate. It is sub-oval in shape where the edges are drawn in to a point on both sides near the middle. The buckle plate is also bent slightly at this point. There are two rivets at the other end, which appear on both the front and reverse sides. At the opposite end there is a perforation. There is evidence of gilding around the rivets and perforation at the front of the plate. It is in good condition with limited corrosion products. An incomplete copper-alloy buckle or clasp fastener of medieval date, c.1300-1450 (Whitehead 1991, 27/41).
Description: The buckle/fastener remains as a square bucklesque frame with narrowed and offset 'strap' bars.. The closure plate is missing and is therefore uncertain if it folding clasp or strap with seperate spindle. The buckle is mottled dark grey green and the plate a lighter green.
Measurements:Total 19.91mm long, 13.15mm wide, 6.52mm thick and 2.77g in weight.

A complete cast copper alloy double loop buckle. The loops are oval with slightly widened outer edges. The buckle has bevelled sides to the outer frame and strap bar; the frame widens from the front to the back. The pin is still in place with an attached copper alloy plate and made of copper alloy. The frame measures 28.13mm in length and 29.15mm in width and is 5.23mm thick. It weighs 4.9grams. Whitehead (2003) illustrates a similar buckle (page 53, No.299) which he dates to c.1350-1650 AD

A cast copper alloy double loop buckle. The loops are oval with slightly widened outer edges. The buckle has bevelled sides to the outer frame the strap bar has knops at both ends whith an attached copper alloy plate; the frame widens from the front to the back. The pin is missing but was proberbly made of copper alloy. The frame measures 29.28mm in length and 20.91mm in width and is 5.18mm thick. It weighs 4.6grams. Whitehead (2003) illustrates a similar buckle (page 53, No.294) which he dates to c.1350-1650 AD

An incomplete Post-Medieval cast copper alloy buckle. The frame has rounded ends and concave sides, and is slightly rounded in profile. The inside ends are concave.The bar and pin are missing. There are lobed knops at the bar terminations. The buckle is incomplete with surface corrosion on the frame and further corrosion products at breaks from the bar. This is likely to date from the Post Medieval period, from circa 1600-1720. Similar objects may be seen in Whitehead (1996) pg. 71, no. 447 and on the database HAMP-8D0B62 and YORYM-F86C11.

A fragment of a Post-Medieval cast copper alloy buckle. The fragment comes from the loop of the buckle, and resembles a single-loop sub-rectangular buckle with concave sides.It is missing the rest of the frame, the bar and the pin. The object is not corroded and the breaks are slightly worn. Some abrasions and pitting present on the surface. From the shape, it is likely to date from circa 1500- 1650. A similar, complete, example may be found in Whitehead (1996) pg 28, no. 144 and on the database KENT-77B701 and YORYM-623057.

An incomplete Post-Medieval cast copper alloy buckle. The sides of the frame have been made in two different shapes. The long sides are thin, flat and terminate in rounded knops, while the short sides are thicker and rounded. The bar is recessed. The pin is missing. The buckle is in good condition, with some surface corrosion and corrosion products at joins. This is likely to date from 1500-1650. Similar buckles may be found in Whitehead (1996) pg 28, no. 151 and on the database SUSS-7A18B7 and YORYM-A65C95.
The buckle is 13.8 mm long, 15.5 mm wide, 3.2 mm thick and weighs 1.28 g.

A complete Medieval cast copper alloy buckle. It is rectangular and single-looped in shape with bevelled edges. The pin is intact and is wrapped around the frame. The buckle is in good condition with some light surface corrosion. It is likely to date from the Medieval period, from circa 1300-1500. Similar buckles may be found in the database NLM-4D42D7.
The buckle is 26.3 mm long, 21.6 mm wides, 3 mm thick and weighs 5.41 g.

A complete Post-Medieval cast copper alloy buckle. The buckle is oval double-looped in shape, and is possibly Baldrick. The bar is slightly recessed and the pin attached by wrapping it around the bar. There is no visible decoration, but most of the buckle has surface corrosion. It is likely to date from c. 1630-1690. Similar buckles may be found in Whitehead (1996) pg. 57, no. 330 and on the database DEV-D36A22 and DEV-B73A16.
The buckle is 24.9 mm long, 18.4 mm wide, 2.5 mm thick and weighs 2.42 g.

The frame is incomplete and retains one loop of the double loop frame, as well as the bar and pin. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The end is pointed and each corner terminates in an ovoid knop. An incomplete Post-Medieval cast copper alloy buckle. It is oval in shape with a double loop frame and one lobed knop on the outer edge of each loop. One knop has a groove for the pin, which is now missing. The inside edges are bevelled with no further decoration. The frame of the buckle is complete with some corrosion products and is in good condition. This buckle is likely to date from circa 1550-1650. A similar buckle may be found in Whitehead (1996) pg. 62, no.373.
The buckle is 48.64 mm long, 20.9 mm wide, 2.32 mm thick and weighs 5.16 g.

A complete asymmetrical Medieval copper alloy annular buckle. It is an oval double-looped annular buckle with bevelled interior rim. The frame is cast and undecorated. The bar may be cast or a wire attached after initial casting. The pin is sheet metal wrapped around the bar and stops at a point. Possible joins or breaks are visible at both ends of where the bar meets the frame. The whole object is in good condition and is brownish in colour with some light green. An incomplete Post-Medieval cast copper alloy buckle. The oval double looped frame is complete and decorated with three V-shaped grooves on each side. The reverse is undecorated. The buckle is a brownish colour with some light green corrosion present. The bar is central and has been bent slightly in the middle. The pin is missing. The buckle is in good condition with some corrosion. The buckle dates from circa 1550-1650. It is 34.49 mm long, 27.91 mm wide, 3.01 mm wide and weighs 6.37 g.
Similar buckles may be found in Whitehead, R. (2003) and on the PAS database WMID-19C615 .

A Medieval double loop rectangular 'locking' or spur buckle. The buckle has a rectangular frame which is drilled to allow for a separate spindle. Protruding from the outside edge of this spindle is a separate locking arm terminating in rounded point. c.1350-1450 AD. Similar examples can be seen in Whitehead page 89.

Silver-gilt buckle with a triangular plate, recently broken in two pieces. The oval loop, of D shaped section, is cast in one with the plate. It has a false shield-on-tongue composed of two stepped, crescentic panels, each decorated with a band of interlace now obscured by corrosion. The base of the tongue is an elongated oval, the tip is now missing. An incomplete Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) cast copper-alloy buckle pin (c. 450-c. 600). Part of the shaft and the loop are missing due to old breaks. It has a 'shield'-shaped plate. In plan, the plate is rounded at the end and incurved at the sides. The incomplete shaft is 'D'-shaped in cross-section, flat on the underside and is 7.3mm long. On the underside, close to the rounded end, a stub of the attchment fitting remains, 3.7mm long. Similar pins can be seen on the database: IOW-0A4DF1
The pin is 19.9mm long, 12.8mm wide, 3.2mm thick and weighs 3.55 grams.
