A cast copper-alloy incomplete annular brooch of Anglo-Saxon tradition, dating to the 6th century. The brooch is incomplete, with approximately 50% of the brooch remaining in two adjoining fragments. The band is a flat ring of rectangular section and 10.07mm in breadth and 2.66mm in thickness.The upper face of the band is decorated with an inner and outer circle of punched rings/annulets. A base fragment of a late Roman ceramic vessel, a calcite-gritted jar from a Yorkshire kiln, c. 250-400. The sherd consists of the base of a jar and a small portion of wall. The clay is a dark grey colour with a charcoal-black exterior. Large calcite inclusions can be seen in the fabric, many of which have been lost (due to the chemical reaction between the calcite and the acidic nature of the local soils), creating pitting or 'vesicles' on the interior and exterior surfaces of the sherd.
