Cast copper alloy snake form belt hook, including one cast copper alloy strap fitting with a lion's head. There are traces of gilding remaining on both segments of the object. The strap fitting has an oval-planned body, domed, with a moulded lion's head set in border of incised, slanting lines. There is a rectangular tag for attaching a strap to one side of the head. The other side has an integral loop, at a perpendicular angle to the face; one snake's head passes through this loop to form an anchor, the other head being the means of fastening and unfastening. The snake is double-head…

Identification supplied by Jim Halliday. A cast copper alloy openwork, flat backed fragment from a hooked tag or clasp. A complete example was found in Lincolnshire (PAS database No: LIN-79D1C5). The clasp dated from the early 16th Century. It depicts an stylised man facing forwards, all that survives is his torso, decorated with a scroll. There is a possible lion's head/ motif covering his midriff. It terminates with a large (now broken) loop, below two smaller loops. Compare with SUR-D2C7B2 on this database.

A copper-alloy Bar-mount with pendent loop. Probably dates from the 13th or 14th century AD. For a similar example from London, see G. Egan; 1990; pp. 219, no. 1189. The upper side of the bar, or 'hanger', is rectangular in plan and of D-shaped section. The width of the bar tapers at the bottom and is looped back on itself, terminating in a square stop which is joined to the front section of bar (and, originally, to the belt) by a single copper-alloy rivet. The pendant sits within the loop at the bottom of the bar and consists of a quadrilobate frame. This frame has an axis bar of cir…

An incomplete cast copper alloy sword belt fitting of post-medieval date. The surviving part of the fitting measures 51.8mm by 21.5mm by 2.8mm and weighs 9.7g. It consists of a curvilinear plate with a broken forwards curving hook at the narrow end, which would have been fitted onto the scabbard strap for a sword. The plate contains a rivet hole towards each end and both of these contain traces of corroded iron rivets. The front of the plate is decorated with incised curving lines in a foliate design.

A cast lead alloy strap loop of probable seventeenth century date. The distorted strap loop measures 77.5mm by 28.8mm by 7.1mm and weighs 56g. One of the long sides of the long oval loop is wider and the external face is decorated with four longitudinal grooved lines. On the other side of the loop there is a smaller wider section. This contains the stubs of two apparently integral rivets. The strap loop is similar to no. 375 in Read's 'Metal Artefacts of Antiquity' (2001, pp. 40, 44) although this example, which is from Norfolk, is smaller (44mm x 11mm)
