Post-medieval coin; struck silver half-groat of Charles I, Tower mint, star mint mark on both sides, dated to 1640-41. The coin has been pierced with a single, circular hole which falls to the right of the mint mark of the obverse.

Silver threepence of Charles I (1625-49), seige piece (1642-9), Ormond money dating to 1643.
This issue has traditionally been titled 'Ormond' money because it was thought to have been struck on behalf of Chrles I by the Viceroy, James, Marquis of Ormond. Ormond had been in charge of the King's armies in Ireland from the start of the rebellion.
