Report on a case of possible Treasure from Leiston area, Suffolk (2006 T334)
This report concerns a hoard of six silver pennies of Henry II (1154-89), found at Leiston in Suffolk. All six coins are of the Cross-and-Crosslets (Tealby) type of Henry II, issued between 1158 and 1180. Typically, the coins are poorly struck, and quite worn, so that much of the inscription is illegible in each case, which hinders precise identification.

Copper alloy brooch, hinge-headed enamelled type. Missing pin, damaged hinge and edges. The main bow is a flat strip, joined by short elements at near right angles to the hinge and the lower bow. The front has a broad groove along each side, with a narrow beaded rib along the inner edges; these flank a row of five enamelled rectangles. A copper-alloy incomplete probable strap fitting most likely medieval in date. 25.36mm in length and 16.97mm in width. It is rectangular in shape and has a complete rectangular loop at one end, below this it is open work with two opposing oval shaped holes. The edge below these is incomplete and have V-shaped notches in it.
Richard Henry (pers comm, 2021) notes that this is in fact a late Roman amphora shaped strap end and parallels include NMS-007A32, KENT-65D2C4 and an example recorded from Richborough (Lyne 1999).

Post Medieval Umbonate copper alloy bridle boss, hollow-cast central boss with elaborate relief decoration comprising part of a battle scene with two confronted horsemen, with clouds or smoke above and a town in the background, all within an elaborate ropework and pelleted flange with damaged multi-foil outside edge with 15 of originally 16 triangular foils, pierced by three large rivets, corroded remains of iron plate on reverse. Two silver undiagnostic fragments of unknown date. The larger drop appears to be part of a solid cylinder with two smaller flat circular surfaces and a curved edge. The other side to the curved edge is very rough and appears to be a broken surface. The smaller drop is an irregular shape with rounded surfaces - globular. The surface is also irregular. A Modern silver finger ring (less than 300 years old). The finger-ring has been constructed from two strands of silver wire that have been twisted together to form a single twisted strand. The two ends are sealed with a bulbous terminal. These ends are then hooked around each other to form the ring-shape. Dimensions: diameter: 22.29mm; thickness: 5.05mm; weight: 0.77g.

Medieval or post medieval copper alloy mount? 48mm long, 17mm wide, 15mm thick and weighs 30.6grams. The object is in fair condition with a corroded green/brown patina and traces of dark brown original surface. It has a conical body which has several linear indentations running its length which get shallower towards its tip. Below this is a hollow shaft 18mm long.

A worn cast copper-alloy medieval shield-shaped harness mount. The shield is of the common 'heater' shape, that is, with a flat top, and sides which curve steeply to a point. The mount features a bent, integrally cast stud projecting for c. 7.7mm from towards the top of the rear. The stud tapers from a diameter of 3.9mm at its junction with the body of the mount, to one of 3.0mm at its terminal. Small copper alloy heraldic stud. The stud is quatrefoil with an angle between each lobe. The background of the stud is red enamel and there are three lions passant on the front although their tincture has worn way. At the top of the stud, over the top lion there is a label, in this case a riband with three shorter ribands hanging down from it.
