A lead alloy object which may be a weight. The object is a triangular prism shape with a slightly rounded top and a slightly concave base. It is 20.3mm tall, 20.3mm wide and 12mm thick. The sides are unmarked but there are deep diagonal parallel lines scored in the base. This object is not pierced but there are examples similar in other ways on page 31 of Biggs and Withers (2000) Lead Weights. The object probably dates from the medieval period.

A lead alloy weight weighing approximately 1 kilogram. The weight is shaped like a three dimensional teardrop, or pear, and has a small circular hole running from the top to the bottom. It is likely a hook of some sort was attached through the hole to allow the weight to be hung on scales. The weight is 74.8mm long and has a diameter of 54.7mm. The metal is pitted and scratched and has a uniform dark grey colour. The weight’s mass of approximately 1kg suggests that the weight is probably modern, and likely to date from 1799 at the earliest, which is when the decision was taken to…

A cast lead quatrefoil weight of possible medieval to early post-medieval date. No exact parallel could be found for this piece, but smaller quatrefoil goldsmith's weights are known (see, for example, N. Biggs and P. Withers; 2000; pp. 49). It is possible that this larger piece, which may be of a heraldic design, is linked to the medieval shield-shaped weight series. The three-dimensional weight consists of four petal-shaped lobes of equal size and nature. One of the surfaces appears to have been flattened, creating the impression of a central cross. The rounded end of one of the pe…
