Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
An incomplete copper-alloy possible buckle. The surviving part of this possible buckle frame consists of a slightly curvilinear rectangular shaped bar, 25mm in surviving length and 5mm in width. It has impressed ring and dot motifs evenly spaced along its front face. From the complete end there is another rectangular shaped bar, 11mm in surviving length and 3mm in width. The curvilinear bar could be the decorated outer edge of a buckle frame. No parallel could be found for this possible buckle frame but it is perhaps most likely to be medieval in date.

Object type: HARNESS FITTING
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
An incomplete and very worn copper-alloy harness fitting, possibly a bell, 36.2mm in surviving length and 19.8mm in width, at the widest point. It has an incomplete suspension loop on a flattened cylindrical shaft which flares into a roughly triangular shaped hollow part, which is also flattened and bent out of shape. The incomplete lower edge of this part appears to have intentional roughly circular perforations through it, these may have been sound holes, if this object was a harness bell. Traces of gilding can be seen. This harness fitting is therefore possiby a bell, due to the…

An incomplete copper-alloy buckle, the frame and part of the integral plate survive, the rest of the plate is missing due to an old break. The plate is narrow and rectangular in shape, it has a worn circular pin hole, through which a fragment of the copper-alloy pin is still attached via an open loop. Behind this there are two transverse grooves and then a central rivet, traces of further transverse grooves can be seen …
