Late Saxon/Early medieval gold thread found during an archaeological excavation by AC Archaeology in 2009.
A single tiny fragment of gold thread was recovered during the process of soil sampling of the fill of a small pit or post hole F328, which also contained a small quantity (12 sherds) of late Saxon/early Medieval pottery and two iron nails. The thread measures 3.5mm in length and less than 1mm in thickness. The fragment of gold thread from Barton Hill would therefore qualify as Treasure under two of the stipulated criteria of the Treasure Act: it is more than 300 years old and…

Post Medieval gold finger ring, 21mm in diameter and 5mm wide with a weight of 3.28grams. The ring is in a poor condition having been squashed, but consists of a plain band with a slightly raised skull motif. The inner side of the band is inscribed:
In mathems, [..] ob28May96[..]t82.
From what I can see this should read:
Jn Mathews E [Esq]. . ob 28 May 96 . .t [aetat] 82
The abbreviated date '96 is 1696, and the first name is probably John, abbreviated to Jn.

Gold foil. A strip of fine beaten gold foil of thickness 0.18mm. The strip was apparently straight-edged and has been neatly folded at least nine times producing a neat and compact flattened roll. This material would appear to be prepared for craft use, as for the decoration by gilding of metalwork, rather than being bullion. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Post-Medieval, 100-1600.
Given the material and suspected date, this object is to be considered as potential Treasure, reference: 2012 T485.

Gold bracteate pendant, buckled and distorted but complete. The pendant takes the form of a thin gold disc, with no framing wire surrounding the disc and no evidence for one ever being present. The central motif has been stamped with a matrix (the obverse is more sharply defined than the reverse). It is not symmetrical and not easy to decipher, partly due to creases being difficult to distinguish from deliberate decorative motifs. The following description is only an attempt to distinguish the different features:
Left of the loop (at 10 o'clock) a circular animal head is shown with…
