Roman copper alloy silver-plated denarius of Tiberius, minted in Lyon after AD 16. Reverse shows a seated female figure. Some green corrosion shows through where the silver plating has chipped or worn off in the centre of the reverse and around the edges of the obverse. This type is commonly referred to as the 'tribute penny' of the Bible after the New Testament story in Matthew's Gospel (Chapter 22, 17-21). RIC no. 26.
