Plain gold ring, thin D-shaped band inscribed inside in lower case: love as I or else I dye with maker's mark SF in a shield. The shoulders and hoop are of D-shaped section, the transition between the two elements being imperceptible. A herringbone pattern extends from either side of the bezel, reaching halfway down the side of the hoop, where it terminates in a cross-shaped incision above a tapering longitudinal groove. Working treasure report: A complete gold Medieval finger-ring, with an oval bezel set with a blue stone, possibly sapphire. The hoop of the ring is circular in cross section: the shoulders are broader and taper into a thin band. Either side of the bezel is a narrow transverse ridge. The ring is in good condition, the only defect being that the hoop is slightly bent out of shape. A very similar ring has been found in Kington St Michael, Wiltshire and can be found in the Treasure Annual Report 2003, pg. 102, no. 169. The ring is typical of the late 12th or 13th century

The ring has an oval bezel (9.5mm x 8.6mm) which is set with a faceted rock-crystal beneath which are traces of a gold monogram representing the initials of the deceased on plain black to Grey background. A Medieval gold finger ring of probable 13th century date. The ring is stirrup-shaped set with a green stone (possibly glass or emerald). There are decorative bosses along the shoulders running along a raised ridge. The bosses have punched decoration giving them the appearance of clusters of granulation on one shoulder and stripes on the other: possibly intended to represent a vine with grapes, leaves and tendrils; or another floral design. The ring has been slightly distorted, mostly around the base of the loop. Similar examples can be seen on the database: eg ESS-831C60, ESS-98F924 …

Description: Post-medieval gold posy ring. A flat band inscribed on the interior with 'Hearts united live contented' followed by an unidentifiable maker's mark, DA with a crown above in a square shield with rounded corners. The hoop is slightly squashed due to damage. Discussion: A gold posy ring with the same inscription, dated to 1768, is located at the British Museum (Registration number AF. 1270). The mark on the interior of 2012 T358 is not identifiable in any standard work of reference. There is therefore not enough evidence to give the ring a date pre- 1712 AD, and as…
