Object type: BOOK FITTING
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A worn and incomplete cast copper alloy openwork fitting, probably a book clasp of 11th or 12th century date. Worn sinuous curves on the upper surface suggest possibly a zoomorphic form. The fitting is triangular and has nine circular apertures. At the wider end the bar to retain the strap is missing but the two supporting projections survive. At the apex is a flat-sided projection with a lateral rounded hole for attachment.
