A fragment of a stoneware vessel, probably a jug, with moulded decoration. The decoration comprises part of the beard from a bearded male face above a bordered cartouche containing script. The letters may be nonesense, and seem to be a retrograde E followed by W T I. The fragment comes from a type of stoneware vessel known as a Bartmann or Bellarmine jug, the bearded face thought to be lampooning Cardinal Bellarmine (1542-1621), and dates from the post-medieval period (1600-1750).
