A fragment of an early-medieval or medieval iron padlock, circa 950 AD-1500 AD. The fragment represents the bolt, and has an irregular end-plate. End-plates from these padlock bolts are normally circular, but this has two straight edges joined by a curve, and at least one of the straight edges is thickened as if crushed or broken. Three ends of the springs (the internal mechanism which locks the padlock) protrude from its outer surface where they were riveted through the end-plate. A fragment of an early-medieval or medieval iron padlock, circa 950-1500 AD. The object is part of the bolt, and represents a thick circular end plate with the riveted ends of three springs (the internal locking mechanism) on its external surface. Short stubs from the spines of two of the springs remain on the inner surface, together with a scar from the third. The spines appear to have been thick short rectangles in cross-section, two set in line with each other and the third perhaps perpendicular. The fragment measures 35.4mm in diameter, is 6.5mm in thickness ,and weighs 52.0g. The…

Iron spearhead of Swanton's Series L. Angular blade, probably corrugated, socket split, now truncated, stump 15.0mm diameter. Blade flame-shaped tapering sharply from maximum width. Down one side of the blade is a deep narrow ridge/step which is off-set to one side. The other side of the blade is obscured but it is likely that this bore a corresponding off-set groove and that the blade was corrugated with a Z section. Some recent damage to socket and the tip of the blade which is bent.
