An incomplete cast copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands, Mackreth 2011, 4.a, 4. b. or 4c. of Roman date (80-120 AD). The wings are incomplete being broken / eroded at the tips. They are semi-cylindrical in plan. The axis bar, spring and pin are lost. At the junction of the bow and wings is a sub rectangular cast hollow, which is thought to have been filled with a type of adhesive paste. A Roman period, copper alloy zoomorphic (horse and rider) plate brooch. It is facing right; 19.59mm long, 8.95mm wide and 5mm thick and weighs 1.2g and is decorated with four enamel cells all now empty.
The object is sub rectangular in form and rectangular in section; and has one sub rectangular intrusion which marks a partial body of the rider, along with the body of the horse.
