A Medieval or Post Medieval cast lead alloy circular uniface token. One side is decorated with a simple hatch design the other side is blank. The token measures 17.99 mm in diameter, 2.27 mm thick and weighs 4 grams. Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were often made locally; they are therefore hard to date precisely, but examples with simple designs are given a general date of c. 1250-c. 1800.

A Medieval or Post medieval cast lead alloy uniface circular token, c. 1250-1800 AD. The token is slightly bent and has a long cross pattern to one side and the other side is blank. It is possible that a pellet might have been placed in each quadrant of the cross, but due to surface wear, this is uncertain. It weighs 6.4 grams, 18.58 mm in diameter and 3.08 mm thick. Lead tokens were often locally made and had a variety of uses. They are therefore hard to date precisely, but those with simple designs of crosses are believed to have originally mimicked the designs produced on coinage o…

A cast lead alloy weight, probably dating to between the Medieval to Post Medieval period, c. 12th-17th century AD. The weight is square in plan, with a domed upper surface and a flat base, resulting in a sub-trapezoidal cross-section. The upper surface is decorated with a large raised long cross with three edges of the cross remaining; the three ends represent different types of cross, one being pattee, one pommee and one undetermined with a large angular knop at the end. The fourth end of the cross is missing due to old damage and a cut mark crosses through the incomplete arm of …

A lead alloy bifaced token with mainly indistinct curved and straight lines on each face. The flan has a small lip which is a more common occurrence on medieval tokens than post-medieval tokens. Also the quality of the moulding suggests an earlier date. Circa AD 1300-1500.

A crudely cast, circular lead weight of Medieval or Post Medieval date. It is circular and the upper surface is slightly dished. There is a narrow groove which partly cuts across the middle of the upper surface, but this is probably accidental damage. There are no marks of value, but at a weight of 53.61 (1.9oz), this was probably intended to be a 2oz weight. It therefore dates from the 14th century onwards when the imperial system of weighing started to be developed. It is 31.6mm in diameter and 8mm thick.

A probable Medieval lead alloy token dating from the 13th to 15th century AD. The token is bifacial and appears to depict a bird on either face in quite good detail. The token as a distinctive silvery appearance which suggest pewter, a material used for tokens mainly in the medieval period, and possibly related to the church in some way (See Fletcher 2005:22). The bird appears to have it's head down feeding. The reverse of the token is not visible as the token has been folded in half.

A lead alloy spindle whorl of probable Medieval date. The spindle whorl is plano convex, with one face more shallow than the other, and it has a raised border around the outer edge. There is also a central circular perforation which tapers from a diameter of 10.6mm to 9.4mm; there is no indentation in the wall of the perforation. Both faces are decorated with a series of 9 raised dots separated by lines radiating from a central raised border. The body of the whorl shows minimal amounts of wear, and damage appears to be limited to a gouge in the material radiating from the central pe…

A Medieval or Post Medieval cast lead alloy circular uniface token. Powell Type 30. The token is decorated on one side with five pellets arranged with four forming corners of a square with the fifth pellet roughly in the centre. The reverse surface is flat and undecorated. Lead and its alloys are very easy to work and tokens were often locally produced; therefore they are difficult to date and tokens with simple designs had considerable longevity. There are dated generally from c. 1250-1800 AD.

An incomplete medieval cast lead alloy purse shaped pendant, or possibly badge. The purse is roughly trapezodial and 'hangs' via two looping sections on a belt with a round buckle at one end. Between the looping sections is a plain column with a raised section which covers the belt. After the loops, the belt zig-zags across both sides of the purse as a raised design; the strap is decorated with ring-and-dots and ends with a rounded terminal which protrudes from the side of the purse. An incomplete medieval cast lead alloy pendant or badge of Christ on the Cross. The pendant is decorated on both faces with cross hatching and trefoil terminals; each foil is emphasised with a central raised pellet. On one face is a depicted of Christ with a halo. There is no obvious means of attachment but the top trefoil is broken and may originally have extended to an attachment loop. The pendant measures 26.1mm (length) x 21.0mm (width) x 1.5mm (thickness) and weighs 1.27g. The pendant is of an unprovenanced rood, therefore a broad medieval date is suggested.
