An unidentified copper alloy artefact, probably of post medieval date. It consists of a circular disc, perforated in the centre by a small, round hole. The disc is slightly concave and is decorated on both sides with identical designs. The decoration consists of a small, central floral design with sixteen short petals and eight panels formed by lines radiating out from the central hub. A copper alloy object, possibly a fragment of handle from a late Iron Age tankard. The object is formed of a crescent and a now-broken loops; the broken loop sits against the side of the crescent, and projects out at a right angle from it. Over the centre of the join is a decorative fake 'link'. The lower crescent had a rough and flat underside, suggesting it may be the base or attachment face. The object measures 17.9mm (length) x 17.6mm (width) x 12.2mm (thickness) and weighs 7.09g. The object is covered in a thick green patina, which suggests that it from the Iron Age to Roman pe…

A cast copper alloy object in the form of an eagle with its wings outstretched, its right leg forward and its head facing left. The beak is worn and there is a little detailing to represent flight feathers . The bird is cast in two pieces; the lower component comprises the legs and talons and an area of ground with simple scrollwork on which the bird stands. A short length of rivet protrudes through the base. The fitting is likely to be comparatively modern and may perhaps be from a lid or other domestic vessel.

An incomplete cast copper alloy object. Two oval segments, each have a concave reverse and are D-shaped in section, are connected by a short narrow bar. The object is broken at the bar projecting from the opposite end of either segment, one of which project 90degrees from the rest of the object. The exact function of this object is unclear. The 90degree projection suggests that the complete object may have been rectangular in plan. A form of buckle or harness fitting is therfore a probable function. The light green, slightly pitted patina suggests a possible Iron Age date.

A cast copper alloy object. Rectangular in plan, with a rectangular collar and a small projection extending at a perpendicular angle from the collar as a continuance of the edge of the main rectangular plate. The object has a diagonal uneven break from the collar to half way deon the body of the main plate, obscuring what seems to have been the functional portion of the object. The reverse is plain, but uneven with raised bumps. The edges are rounded and the object as a whole seems well worn through use. The front plate has decoration cast in relief, with several irregular shaped c…

An irregular cast copper alloy unidentified artefact or unknown date. From what remains it seems most likely that this fragment is either a miscast pin or possibly a fused brooch, both possibly of Roman date. The artefact is irregular in plan being broadly cylindrical in shape expanding to an irregular shaped mid-point and tapering to an irregular point. If it were a pin, then the mid-point would be the head with a casting sprue / miscast waste above and a relatively well formed tapering shank below. The shank is well cast and the patina is relatively smooth. The area above the head i…

An irregular cast copper alloy composite unidentified artefact of unknown date function or (most probably post Medieval). The artefact is incomplete and fragmentary; in shape / form it is similar to a Roman bow brooch, however in construction it is most likely to be more modern. The fragment is composite being formed from two lengths of copper alloy conjoined by a lateral ring of copper alloy. One end of the object is fitted through a horizontal C shaped length of copper alloy sheet set at an angle of 90 degrees. The slight nature of the artefact suggests that it had no structural pu…
