Cast copper-alloy disc brooch with backward looking beast within border of 28 pellets (the most frequently recorded number of pellets on a brooch of this type). The beast has a pointed, upturned tail, open jaws and a spiky mane. Faint traces of three ring-and-dots form the eye and decoration on the shoulder and on the hindquarters. The beast has four legs, with three toes on each of the two rear legs and the second leg from left, the toes of the foot furthest to the left are indistinguishable from the spikes of the mane. On the reverse is a pin-lug with a notched upper edge. It is …

A sheet copper alloy sword pommel, probably dating to the early-medieval period. The pommel is made from one sheet of copper alloy that has been folded from a flat rectangular base up and over into triangular profiled pommel with a rectangular cross section. The pommel is filled with a lead alloy substance, giving the object quite some weight for its size. The folds of the pommel do not quite touch each other and the lead infill has leached out. Through the centre of the pommel is the remains of an iron rivet or pin; possibly the remains of the tang but with a small diameter. Although…

Only the foot remains, with a break above an undecorated panel, separated from the horsehead terminal by two bands across the width. An incomplete cast copper-alloy possible bracelet of Early Medieval date, c. 600-900. The object is curved in profile and an elongated drop-shape in plan. The tapered end has an abraded break, while the opposite end appears to be a corroded but complete terminal. In section, the oebject is D-shaped. The object appears to be a bracelet, and the metalwork and form (albeit corroded) is consistent with bracelets of Early Medieval date. The other possibility is a pin.

The handle-like projection and the suspension loop are missing due to an old transverse break and part of the flange is missing. The complete stirrup mount would have consisted of a pentagonal, flat frame or body, set within a pair of tendril like shapes, down each diagonal side, which terminated in scrolls. A cast copper alloy stirrup-strap mount of Early Medieval (Saxon) date. This strap mount can be classified as Williams Class B; Type 3, Group 1. This type is describes by Williams as having "groups of aperturs arranged in tiers and a pair of beasts in profile at the tops...some form of engraved decoration which extends nto the flange" (1997; pg. 91). The engarving in this example is quite worn, and so teh nature of the decoration, which is probably zoomorphic, is not visible. The flange is broken, and has one rivet still in place. The mount has a reddish-brown patina. The mount is …

The strap end is of a long, wide tongue shape. The strap end is decorated in a finely cast openwork design depicting a thick stemmed plat running down the centre this is flanked on either side with a combination of standing birds facing the centre and overhanging leafs. A complete cast copper-alloy sword pommel of Early Medieval Anglo-Scandinavian date, c. 900-1100. The pommel has a base that crecentic base that curves towards the outer edges, with five rounded lobes that increase in size towards the centre. The central lobe has a sub-rectangular-shaped perforation on its outer face, through which tang of the sword would have originally passed. The pommel is mostly hollow. There are no rivets on the pommel, which suggests it was held in place simply by the hammered tang. This is a sword pommel of late Early-Medieval date and of probable Viking/An…

A corroded and damaged early-medieval cast copper-alloy strap-end, classified as Thomas' (2003, 2) Class A, Type 2. This would date the artefact to around the ninth century. Its upper fold has been all but lost and the lower fold is so abraded that the usual pair of rivet holes cannot be discerned.
