A Post-medieval copper-alloy bracelet or bangle of a form that was popular among the rural working classes of the 18th century. These bracelets are either plain or, like this example, decorated with a simple groove. This one has a groove decorated with small circular punch marks along the centre of the outer face. Very much like copper bracelets today, this 18th century version was worn in the belief that it would prevent or help relieve illnesses, in this case the 'ague', a type of fever that was rife at the time. A Medieval cast copper alloy seal matrix of conical form. It has a faceted hexagonal shaft with a circular suspension loop. The design shows a bear walking right and the legend reads: " *TOVMBEBOSSE". Though the letters are quite clear, it is not easy to understand what this means. A similar seal matrix is NLM-359707 which has a mouse instead of a bear and again, has a legend which is not understood. A cast copper-alloy pendant of medieval date, possibly a harness pendant. The circular pendant has an irregualr stub on the top surface; the remains of an integral perpendicular suspension loop. The reverese of the pendant is flat and plain. The upper surface is moulded in low relief. Within a broadly circular pelleted border is the device device of an eagle facing with head left. The terminal comprises elaborate openwork of inverted M-shape with a lozenge-shaped terminal and side scrolls with four circular depressions on the outside edge of the frame. An incomplete copper-alloy linch pin dating to the late Iron Age or early Roman period (circa 100 BC to AD 100). The pin has a flat, circular head decorated with three recessed pointed oval cells. This leaves a narrow sub-triangular ridge of reserve metal in the centre extending to the edge. The reserve metal perimeter and triangle are decorated with incised lines. An Iron Age cast copper-alloy linch pin terminal foot (c. 100 BC-c. AD 100). The exterior of the socket tapers to the terminal, where it curves forward and expands into a flat circular plate. The socketed part has a substantial collar an within the socket part of the iron pin survives. The face of the plate has a raised rim and at the centre is a recessed concave-sided triangle. An incomplete cast copper alloy flat purse bar, with one arm missing. The arms curve upwards and outwards from the central block and have cast foliate ornament on their outer faces only. A complete cast copper-alloy mini terret, dating to the late Iron Age/early Roman periods. The terret is sub-circular in plan, with a flattened attachment side, and is D-shaped in cross section, with a flat lower surface (Int. W.: 13.3mm, L.: 12.2mm, Th.: 3.3mm). The flattened side which would have taken a strap is narrowed and recessed (L.: 9.6mm). It is flanked by knops or collars at the junction with the hoop. The object has corroded to a light-green colour with a dark-green patina where it survives. Similar examples can be found on this database, refs. NMS-032B00, YORYM-6BDBA4.

A corroded but complete late Iron Age to early Roman (1st century BC to 1st Century AD), cast copper-alloy strap union of Taylor and Brailsford's (1985, 247) Type 1. It is formed of two conjoined openwork circles arranged one upon the other in a figure of eight, with a projecting narrowed strap bar on the two longest edges. The strap bars are elongated U shapes and join at the mid-point of each openwork circle. One of the bars is recessed and bowes out slightly. A cast copper alloy Roman furniture fitting or mount. The mount is bi-conical or acorn-shaped with a flat disk or skirt for a base. On the flat underside is the remains of an iron shank, which appears to continue up through the length of the fitting it the apex, where a hole filled with iron can be seen. It may be that there was another final knop on top of the fitting which is now missing. A number of Roman furniture fittings or mounts are recorded on this database, including 'acorn-shaped' examples, and a given a general Roman date of AD 43-410.
