Two lead alloy objects of uncertain date and function. The artefacts are of simple conctruction where lead has been rolled up. The appearance of both lead rolls does bear a similarity to that of lead curse rolls from the Roman period. The lead artefacts also bear a similarity to net weights of the Medieval period as the site also has medieval finds. A combined weight is 26.6 grams.

A complete, age uncertain, Roman-Post Medieval, cast, lead alloy, small/medium size, homemade unofficial trader's weight. The weight has a circular shape, fairly flat, although one side is slightly thicker than the other. There is a feint crease across the middle where it was slightly bent by the plough and a small, off centre triangular indentation on one side. The weight has little wear but it otherwise has an even matt, white coloured surface. This weight could date between 43-1799AD. Ref. Object type: ANCHOR
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Nottinghamshire

A very large lead alloy weight or possible anchor of unknown date. It is a flat, seven sided slab of lead alloy with an irregular circular hole though it. There are deep scratches on one face. It is 168mm by 160mm in plan, 50mm thick and weighs 6.5kg. This find is clearly a weight designed to hang from an attachment through the hole. The finder interprets it as an anchor because the area where it was found was a 500 acre lake before it was drained in the 17th century. It is similar is size and shape to other archaeological anchor stones such as IOW-BF2C26, one found in London (http:…

A complete but distorted lead alloy finger ring. The ring is small, possibly for a child or little finger, and has a raised circular bezel that contains a dark blue galss or paste. Either side of the bezel on the shoulders is two smaller circular mouldings that may have once also contained inserts. The band extends from beneath the latter and is plain and circular in section. The ring is similar in form to some Roman finger rings, however the size, material used and quality may suggests a much later date, possibly the post-medieval or even early-modern period.
