Roman Brooch: An incomplete cast copper alloy and enamel early Roman dragonesque brooch. The brooch is a S-shaped plate; both terminals and the pin are missing. The plate is decorated with a central roundel with a quatrefoil at the centre and a raised circular rim. Between the rim and arms of the quatrefoil are enamel cells of white/pale blue and green. Both above and below this are further curvilinear raised cells with enamel inlay of red and more of the white/pale blue. Brooches of this type are dated AD 75-175.

Roman Brooch: Incomplete and heavily worn cast copper alloy Headstud brooch. The bow and wings of the brooch survive. The head loop is missing although slight traces of where this was attached remain. The wings are cylindrical and the remains of the axis bar for the hinged pin are encased within. A Roman cast copper alloy brooch dating to the 2nd to early 3rd century AD. The brooch is comprised of a flat oval plate that would have been enamelled. In the centre of this plate there is a recess into which an intaglio which is now missing would have been pasted in. No traces of enamelling survive. The projecting lug from the hinge spring is present on the reverse, as is the catchplate, but no pin survives. The brooch is 29.1mm long x 22.1mm wide x 5.2mm thick and weighs 9.3g. A similar example can be seen in Hattatt (1987, 252; ref. 1207).

An incomplete cast copper alloy Trumpet brooch of Roman date. The reverse of the head is concave to accommodate the spring mechanism and has an integral loop to hold the spring. The pin no longer remains. The head itself is trumpet shaped and tapers to form the upper bow which extends to a circumferential collar. Below the collar is an elaborate acanthus decoration followed by a second circumferential collar. Copper alloy Roman brooch probably a fragment of thistle type brooch possibly a bow and fantail dating between 50 and 150AD. The spring cover has little wings drilled to house the axis bar. The brooch would have been cast in two pieces but the central plate and the fantail are now missing. The arch of the brooch is decorated with fluting and the patina is dark green. The length is 27mm, the width is 19mm and the thickness is 16mm.

A Medieval copper alloy annular brooch dating 13th - 14th century. This ring brooch is hexagonal in plan with a circular central edge. This inner circular edge is decorated with diagonal stamped lines, creating a rough, twisted rope motif. Roman copper alloy trumpet brooch 50 BC to 50 AD. The brooch is in a very fine condition, cast in 2 pieces and is complete with spring, pin, catchplate and chain loop intact. It is 'D' shaped in profile integrally cast with 3 transverse lines and mid bow knop decorated in a stylised acanthus flower. The chin loop clips at the neck of the brooch and is inserted into the ends of a tubular axis bar. The patina is dark green. The length is 30mm, the width is 18mm and the thickness 10mm.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands). The brooch has a sharply curving bow that extends down to the catchplate, which is now incomplete but appears to have been of the openwork variety. There is now decoration or ribbing on the bow or elsewhere. The head of the brooch retains the spring box but the spring and pin is now missing. This brooch is similar to those in Hattatt (2007), for example number 24 (p300). They date AD 80-120.
