Base sherd of Roman Poole-Wareham Black Burnished ware (BB1), 100-410 AD. The sherd has a dark black outer surface, mid-grey core and re-oxdised mid-orange inner surface. It is abraded with the burnished surface lost from the outside if it did reach this far down the vessel. The fabric is fairly coarse, with the distinctive cods-roe fracture. It is tempered with abundant, poorly sorted, rounded quartz (less than 2mm, most less than 0.5mm), very occasional rounded shale (less than 2mm) and possibly some very small fragments of flint. The base is flat, c.80mm in diameter with the wall r…

A cast lead pot mend, used to mend a broken vessel in order to lengthen the period of use after damage had occurred. It is broadly sub-oval and flat in profile, with the sections above and below the slot of similar sizes. There are no discernible pottery fragments within the slot. The repair has corroded to a light-grey colour. Unfortunately such repairs are not diagnostic; a wide date range is therefore offered.

Two fused copper-alloy vessel feet of Medieval or Post-medieval date. The vessel feet are partically melted and consequently fursed together, possibily due to waste or recycling. One foot is sub-rectangular in shape. In profile the fragment curves, the reverse is slightly concave. A prominent median rib, triangular in cross-section, runs down the length of the leg. The second foot survives in a poorer condition and is irregular in shaped. The artefact is 95.15mm in length, 52.3mm wide, 26.45mm thick

Cast copper alloy vessel foot dating to the Post-Medieval period. The leg is trapezoidal in section and has a vertical ridge at the centre of the outer surface. It is slightly curved in profile. Both ends terminate in a break. The object is corroded with a light green pitted surface.
