Modern white-metal wire finger ring. The hoop is formed of two narrow strips of wire, which are twisted together into three knots on the bezel, a larger complex knot in the centre flanked by two smaller ones. The wire has a square cross-section. This ring was examined by the British Museum to decide whether it should be reported as Treasure. Barry Ager commented that the square section of the wire suggests probable machine manufacture; Judy Rudoe commented that it was likely to be not earlier than the 19th century. In addition, the ring is similar to KENT-697734 (2013T52), which w…

An undiagnostic rod of twisted gold formed from at least two strands of uniform thickness, bent into an elliptical, penannular shape . Both terminals are spatulate, having been roughly flattened. The makers mark LJ Co is stamped on one terminal. Wear visible on upper face of outer surface. The object is probably a bracelet. XRF analysis of the surface indicates that it is gold alloy close to 9 carat gold. Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface of this bracelet, indicated it to be of a gold alloy close to that of 9 carat gold - approximately 36% gold, 9% silver,…

A silver finger ring in the form of a strap or miniature belt. It has fractured across the band at one point, no gilding is evident. The hoop, which has a fracture across it, has a band width of 6.3mm, an internal diameter of 22.2 x 19mm and weight of 5.844g. The finger ring has a form typical of a nineteenth century date. The popular form was made by a range of manufacturers, including Spiers (Hart 1978, 133). Details of the strap slide vary, and some have buckle loops. This ring is of nineteenth-century date and therefore as it is not at least 300 years old is not treasure under …

A copper alloy (bronze) farthing of George V. The coin has been pierced to form a pendant for suspension, possibly on a necklace or more likely on a fob watch. Further, the coin has been deliberately drilled, cut and filed to create a profile of the king. This work is very fine and the filing is extraordinarily neat, following the profile of the face and back of the head as well as the internal line which divides the inscription from the field. This design completely ignores the reverse of Britannia seated. The date of the coin (191[?]) and the wear suggests that it had been in circul…

The ring fragment comprises the bezel and both shoulders; the hoop is lost, and the fragment is distorted by being squashed. The hoop was D-shaped in cross-section, flaring at the shoulders to form an oval decorated bezel. The bezel is inlaid with an enamelled design consisting of a centrally positioned cross pattee, the interior of which is recessed and filled with black enamel. The cross is enclosed within an oval border, and the spaces between the…

A post-medieval or modern lead seal. The seal is circular and has a rectangular hole running from side to side through which a cord would have been threaded. Lettering is visible around the perimeter on both sides. Paul Cannon has kindly identified this is a Danish State seed control seal. Around the Danish crown was originally the inscription STATSFRØKONTROLLEN. The other face would originally have read KØBENHAVN.V. Both faces are now extremely difficult to read.
