Lead alloy and iron possible ferrule. Cast ring of rectangular section, band width 5.9mm and thickness 2.4mm with an oval plate of length 15.7mm on one side, and on the opposite side a projecting lug engaging a lump of ferrous corrosion; the latter also includes a green spot hinting at the proximity of copper alloy. The corrosion obscures the continuation of the lug, but it appears to terminate at the back of an oval plate with two low bosses of diameter 6.6mm on its front. Patinated. Possibly related to machinery. Suggested date: Modern, 1850-1950. Diameter (ring): 24.9mm, Lengt…

Broad period: MODERN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead alloy toy dog. Solid Cast model of a dog at approximately 1:32 or 54mm scale. A naturalistically modelled dog is portrayed seated on its haunches and looking upwards; it wears a collar. The solid casting suggests this is distinct from the late 19th to 20th-century products of William Britains and other toy manufacturers, which were hollow cast. It may be a novelty from a Christmas cracker; there is no sign of this figure having been detached from a larger group. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1960. Height: 25.4mm, Width: 12.8mm, Weight: 17.7gms.

Probably copper alloy; not magnetic; probable screw. This object was identified by the finder as a phallic pendant, which was an initially plausible identification. However, bright metal is revealed by wear or abrasion of its dark surface, rather than representing a decorative coating. The 'glans' is separated from 'shaft' by a circumferential rib; however this rib appears to be repeated, indicating this to probably be an abraded screw thread. A light groove separating the 'testes' may be the remnant of a slotted head of a screw, though this has been distorted by heat or impact. Unles…

Copper alloy, silvered, seal matrix. Oval fob seal with a device on either side. One is a Classically inspired bust laureate, bearded and either cuirassed or draped, in a Greek rather than a Roman style. The other side presents Saint George and the Dragon, and in this case the treatment is loosely medieval in character: the Saint brandishes a hilted sword and wears a flattened hat; it is uncertain whether he is booted or armoured, though the horse wears a square saddlecloth of contemporary (i.e. early 19th-century) type. The dragon is an unhappy duck-headed creature with a forked tong…
