An incomplete cast lead whistle of modern date. The whistle is a hollow cone with open apex and a sub-triangular section removed to act as the sound hole. A casting seem is present along the two sides of the whistle and it is moulded with a design consisting of two ovate elements, giving the appearance of eyes. To either side of the "eyes" are two semi-circular designs which is repeated in retrograde on the bottom just in front of the sound hole. The metal has a mid greyish white colour and is worn. Incomplete cast tin alloy hawking whistle, cylindrical in profile and circular in section, with two raised ribs which run around the circumference of the barrel of the whistle, on either side of the semi-circular sounding hole, which has since broken to form a larger aperture. The upper end of the whistle tapers towards the neck and then expands into a spherical suspension loop that has a drilled circular hole which would have taken the lanyard or cord to suspend the whistle. Possibly Copper alloy whistle. Cast tube with a pair of opposed rectangular slots at one end and a metal plate or reed within it at the other; an apparently separately cast and collared mouthpiece is attached at the slotted end. The tubular element bears the stamped legend: J. HUDSON & Co / Birmingham / 1916, which may supply an apt date.
