Aluminium aircraft debris. A curved fitting possibly from the undercarriage hydraulic system, and circa 20 fragments of melted aluminium. The only recognisable fragment is itself partly melted. These are thought to be parts of a Lancaster bomber (serial no. PB476) of 12 Squadron which crashed at 29 minutes past midnight on the morning of March 4 1945. This element is part of the starboard undercarriage strut; an identification kindly suggested by Susan Bootland and confirmed by members of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The plane, returning to RAF Wickenby, was the first o…

White metal probable medallion. Probably replica coin with suspension loop soldered on at 1 O'clock (on the obverse). The coin is an apparently cast copy of a voided long cross penny of Henry III (1216-1272) Class 3; a modern 'mintmark' has not been observed, though may be obscured by solder. The definition of letters is atypically clear, and the obverse appears to bear extensive traces of thin gold wash. The formal record of the coin would be as follows: Obverse description: Facing bust no sceptre, hair of two curls and pellets either side; beard of seven larger and eight smalle…

Broad period: MODERN
County: Lincolnshire

An unidentified object which is probably modern and made of a light white metal, probably aluminium. It is square in section, bent into a loop, and has nicks across the corners. This object was found on a site which has produced a lot of Early Medieval finds, and was originally mistaken for Viking hack silver, but the material is clearly not silver. It therefore does not fall under the 1996 Treasure Act.
