Lead Alloy Possible Knife Handle fragment. Cast rectangular plano-convex object, lightly dished on its back. The display face bears closely-spaced cross-hatched lines with a smooth terminal from which a subdivided triangular motif extends into the hatched field. A rivet hole of diameter 2mm appears off-centre here. Broken at the other end and abraded along the edges, and lightly bowed along its length. The hatching presumably afforded grip. The bullet has been bent and flattened through use, from the impact it received when hitting a hard surface, once it had been fired. A group of nine modern lead Russian bag or bale seal dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, all recovered from the same general area. The seals are all sub-circular, with four shallow semicircular removals in their circumferences for the cords. These types of seal were used as a means to monitor and ensure the quality of products such as flax hemp.
