Lead Alloy Possible Knife Handle fragment. Cast rectangular plano-convex object, lightly dished on its back. The display face bears closely-spaced cross-hatched lines with a smooth terminal from which a subdivided triangular motif extends into the hatched field. A rivet hole of diameter 2mm appears off-centre here. Broken at the other end and abraded along the edges, and lightly bowed along its length. The hatching presumably afforded grip. Cast ring of rectangular section, band width 5.9mm and thickness 2.4mm with an oval plate of length 15.7mm on one side, and on the opposite side a projecting lug engaging a lump of ferrous corrosion; the latter also includes a green spot hinting at the proximity of copper alloy. The corrosion obscures the continuation of the lug, but it appears to terminate at the back of an oval plate with two low bosses of diameter 6.6mm on its front. Patinated.
