A copper-alloy ring of uncertain purpose. This ring might be a finger-ring or alternatively a decorative ferrule from an umbrella, walking stick or riding crop. This artefact is of late 18th to 20th century in date. Weight is 1.69g, diameter is 20.38mm, width of band is 3.52mm and thickness of band is 1.39mm. The band is circular in plan and has a 'D' shaped cross-section. The soldered join in the band is well formed and can only be seen if the artefact is being looked at carefully. This incomplete artefact consists of a deep orange coloured oval shaped intaglio that is set at the centre of three concentric copper-alloy frames. These frames do not lay completely flat. The first frame holds the intaglio in place with a thin field of white 'paste/substance' between the two. The second frame is a 'Y' shape. The top of the 'Y' frame is level with the middle of the intaglio. A white metal thimble of modern date, post 1712. The thimble has been squashed in half and is covered with evenly spaced and sized pimples over the sides and top with a plain border at the rim of 2.89mm height. The top of the squashed thimble is now oval in shape and measures 12.90mm x 9.50mm. The base of the now oval thimble measures 22.70mm x 6.37mm. The plain rim has a thickness of 1.03mm and has been punch with five symbols. A copper-alloy thimble. The thimble has a height of 21.68mm, weighs 3.86g and has a diameter at the base of 18.49mm, tapering to 12.43mm diameter at the top, before the start of the domed top. The sheet metal of the thimble is 0.63mm thick. The lower 2.40mm is undecorated, followed by a line of tiny punched dots. This pattern repeats with a total of four lines of tiny punched dots and five plain bands.
