A Medeival gold stirrup-shaped finger-ring of 1250-1400 AD date. The ring has a slender hoop (1.0mm wide) rising to a pointed bezel with an inset grren stone of oval shape, probably of semi-precious material. Treasure case 2012 T243: Acquired by Somerset Museums Description The object comprises a gold coin set within an iron mount. The coin was produced in central-southern Britain during the late Iron Age, probably between about 40 BC and 20 BC. Although little detail of the original design survives, it is an example of a coin-type known as 'British Qb'. These coins are traditionally ascribed to the Atrebates, a people thought to have lived in the Hampshire area in the Iron Age. In fact, find-spots now suggest that these coins may also have been produced further to the west in Gloucest…

A single Roman gold coin, a solidus of Arcadius, found in exactly the same area as a hoard of 26 late Roman gold solidi and 4 silver siliquae discovered in 1993. This coin is plainly part of the same hoard, missed during the 1993 excavations. It was struck in 394-5, a date that exactly accords with the latest coins in the hoard and its crisp, almost mint state, similar to that of the other coins of this date present, suggests that it had not been in circulation long when the hoard was buried.
