An Anglo-Saxon strap-end of Thomas type A. The strap-end is decorated with an incised zoomorphic decoration executed in an angular style, consisting of a crouched quadruped. The attachment end is misisng, as is part of the incised decoration. The terminal is in the form of an animal-head. Facets and incised lines define the ears, eye-brows and nostrils. (Leahy, K. 2000. An Anglo-Saxon strap-end of Thomas type A. The strap-end is elongated and decorated with a crude linear decoration on the body suggestive of a 'cottage-industry' product. The attachment end is missing. The body is decorated with a hatched rectangular panel with a row of crudely incised crescents to either side. The terminal is in the form of an abstract animal-head and represented by four incised crescents. Silvering is visible on the reverse. A ninth-century date is likely for this item.
