BMC IV (p. cliv) suggests that this issue with the obverse legend CRISPINA AVG IMP COMMODI AVG could have been struck early, in Marcus Aurelius' reign, c. AD 178-80. A copper alloy sestertius of the empress Crispina dating to the period AD 178-187 (Reece Period 9). The obverse depicts a draped bust facing right and is inscribed CRISPINA [AVGVSTA]. The reverse depicts Hilaritas standing left holding a palm branch and a cornucopiae and is inscribed [HILARITAS] S C. Mint of Rome. RIC vIII p 442 cf 668.
