A slightly damaged medieval copper-alloy buckle plate of folded sheet construction. The broadly square plate has a lower fold which is slightly shorter than the upper, but the same width. It features a rivet hole in each corner; all four perforations retain a dome-headed rivet, hammered down at the other end. On either side of the pin slot the plate is recessed for the (missing) frame. The lower fold extends as far as the proximal rivet holes; both have abraded through. Beyond these holes the fold has broken; the detached element retained due to the rivets. The buckle has been bent in…

Copper alloy and steel Buckle. Cast rectangular buckle with rounded corners and edges and a 'cooking pot shaped' loop chape with a single internal spike. The chape is mounted on a steel spindle, and bears a stamped maker's name: S / COOK, in a modern-looking Roman script. The edges of the frame are decorated with incised and stamped floral motifs. The form of chape suggests a date of circa 1690 to 1720 (Whitehead 1996, pages 96-7). The marked curvature tends to confirm it is probably a shoe buckle. Length: 45.6mm, Height: 35.1mm, Thickness (frame, at spindle housing): 5.4mm, Wei…

Copper alloy Buckle. Cast oval single looped buckle frame with a short integrally cast plate and a prominent lip. A pair of rivet holes of diameter 3mm served to attach the buckle to a strap.
