Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A flint triangular arrowhead formed on translucent pale grey flint. It has invasive working over the whole of both faces and shallow retouch round the edges which are convex. One edge is different; it is a hinged termination break and is not retouched, though there is some edge damage. Triangular arrowheads occur in Neolithic assemblages alongside transverse, barbed and tanged, and leaf shaped arrowheads. they are discussed on page 160 of Butler's Prehistoric Flintwork.

Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete, polished stone axehead of Neolithic date. It is oval in shape, with an oval section, and flares from the butt toward the cutting edge. The stone is light grey in colour and there is a small amount of cortex remaining on the butt. The cutting edge remains sharp and there are few signs of wear on either face. It is possible that the axehead has been re-sharpened at some point as there is a roughly triangular patch from the cutting edge to the centre of the axehead on both sides in a different plane to the original shape. The object measures 109.36mm in length, 59.14mm in wid…

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Published
Flint semi-circular scraper, oval in plan and plano-convex in profile, with most of the original cortex remaining on the dorsal face. The cortex has only been removed around half the edge of the dorsal face, following the angle of the flake, in order to retouch the margin to create the scraper edge. The ventral face has some natural fracturing around the edge of the cortex, especially at the proximal end, but the majority of the surface is smooth. The flint is a mottled light brown to grey which suggests that it has been derived from the local beach flint and appears to be the end of …

Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A sub-rectangular flint tertiary flake of probable late Mesolithic to Neolithic date, long and narrow. There is a bulb of percussion beyond a transverse platform, with rippling extending up the face. The dorsal face features some three main blade like removals, all in the same plane and same direction as the main, ventral strike. One is central, with those to the sides bevelled. Losses at the distal end may be old breaks or flaws. The losses to the sides, though numerous, are inconsistent and do not seem to constitute definite retouch. The flint is a variable light-grey colour with so…

Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Bradford
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A flint multi functional tool dating from the Neolithic period, about 3500 BC - 2100 BC. The tool is formed on a blade of translucent grey flint which is slightly patinated and which is lozenge shaped in section. The distal end is a hinged termination. The proximal end has been removed and retouched on an oblique angled. The right edge has invasive retouch forming a knife blade, and the left edge has abrupt retouch at the proximal end to form a scraping edge.

A secondary flint flake which has been notched and retouched to make a composite tool. An elongate flake of mid grey flint with a thin and patchy milky-white patina. At the proximal end is a wide striking platform and a well defined bulb of percussion. There are widely spaced, shallow waves of percussion along the ventral face. On the dorsal face, at the distal end, is a band of thick nodule cortex. There are several flake removals along the length of the dorsal face and some have more marked waves of percussion compared to the ventral face. Viewed from the dorsal face, the left side…

A complete Early Neolithic flint scraper manufactured on a secondary flake (3500 BC-2900 BC).
The implement is an end 'horseshoe end-scraper. It has a small striking platform and the dorsal surface has a large negative bulb of percussion with ripples. About 75% of the edges have been retouched and has semi-abrupt, short sub-parallel removals. The ventral surface has a large bulb of percussion with a percussion scar and has no ripples.

Two tertiary flint waste flakes. Both are elongate, thick flakes of mottled pale grey-brown flint with a low gloss patina. Both have broad striking platforms at the proximal end and shallow bulbs of percussion. There are faint ways of percussion on the central surfaces. On the dorsal faces are two main parallel flake removals with a triangular remnant flake removal between them at the distal end. The flakes have triangular profiles changing to trapezoidal at the distal wedge shaped end.
