CORONER'S REPORT Description of Find The ring is substantially gold and consists of a broad, punch-decorated band tapering sharply at each end to wire terminals which were originally twisted together; width, 26 mm. On either side of a very worn, beaded median rib the ring is decorated with two rows of interlocking punched triangles with triple pellets in each. The ring has been distorted while in the ground and the ends are now almost untwisted as a result. Gold quarter stater, some wear, and abrasion on the obverse, Hobbs 1638. This type is not recorded in Van Arsdell; there are five in the BM including that illustrated in Hobbs all from Essendon, Herts and another six on the Celtic Coin Index (CCI 930963, 941350, 980498 from Watford, Tring and Bishops Stortford; 962670, 971014, 980125 unlocated). The type is related to Whaddon Chase and Tasciovanus types, distribution so far is Hertforshire (but Bishops Stortford eg noted as possibly from Essex, so this example is the most easterly so far but within the Catuvellauni/Trinovantes area.

A gold mourning ring dating from 1753. The ring's outside diameter is 21.6mm, the band's width is 3.3mm, its thickness is 2.1mm and it weighs 4.2g. The band is divided into five curvilinear scrolls, which contain a legend in gold, highlighted by black enamel. The legend reads WM BYSHOP OB:24 JULY.1753 AE:40, i.e. the ring commemorates a William Byshop who died on 24th July 1753, aged 40. The parish registers for Milborne Port record that a William Byshop married a Sara Hallet on 23rd October 1739 (Hugh Vincent, pers. comm.). CORONER'S REPORT Description of Object A broken and distorted component of Roman gold jewellery, probably a necklace link. The fragment comprises a parallel-sided band, made from thin gold sheet, fractured at one end and with a double-eyed fastening loop at the complete end. Following breakage the fragment was bent back on itself, first the looped end then the broken end, the latter resulting in a partial tear. Incomplete gold finger ring, Henig Type VIII, with the inscription 'TOT' on the bezel. The bezel is circular and very worn. The letters 'T' are feint whereas the deeper incised letter 'O' is much more visible. The letters 'T' are depicted as simple straight lines with inward pointing lower terminals. The letter 'O' is a simple circle, and unlike most 'TOT' rings, the 'O' is shown as a capital letter and is larger than the flanking 'T's.
