An incomplete early medieval copper alloy Anglo Saxon shield on tongue pin for a single loop D or oval shaped buckle dating to c.AD 450-625. On the outer face, the shield of the pin is smooth, polished and undecorated. It is a waisted oval shape with a rounded semi-circular end then two rounded semi-circular cut-outs opposite each other which flare out below to form two rectangular lobes with a nick in each short projecting edge. Copper alloy possible buckle fragment, as kindly suggested by the finder. A small cast loop with a markedly projecting lip in the zoomorphic form of a pointed beast head with prominent sub-triangular eyes or ears upstanding on top and with a grooved or hollowed underside; the putative strap bar is absent. The reddish tint of the metal is a feature often associated with Anglo-Scandinavian metalwork. Copper alloy buckle. A massy cast D-shaped buckle with an expanded and thickened textured outer edge with a broad grooved collar towards either end and a narrowed strap bar whose ends are grasped by biting beast heads; the centre of the strap bar is notched to receive a pin [lost]. This is a somewhat massier version of a buckle form usually ascribed to the 11th century. A wider date range is offered with deference to its atypical features. A copper alloy Early Medieval possible strap end or buckle plate, dating to c. AD 500-800. The object is rectangular, and open work. One end is slightly wider, with two large circular perforations, and a smaller perforation beside it. The plate then narrows, with a tear shaped perforation in the centre. Either side of it is a raised border. The plate terminates with three rounded projections. It is slightly curved in cross section, and has a light green brown patina. It measures 31.8mm in length, 17.4mm in width, 2.3mm in thickness and weighs 5.01g.
