The coin is chipped at three points around the edge and these coincide with breaks in the flan. The reverse of the coin has been gilded.

A modern copy of an Early Medieval silver halfpenny of Edward the Elder (899-924), based upon Norrth 660 (floral penny) albeit seemingly intended to be a halfpenny version, of which no real examples are known. The style and flan of the coin are not consistent with an early-medieval piece- the flan is too smooth and the design/inscription too well defined and crisp. It may be an 'Ashmore copy' who produced a very similar fake penny of this type (T. Abramson 'Anglo-Saxon counterfeits', p.152).
