A fragment of a cast copper alloy Roman armlet, broken and reshaped into a finger ring. The armlet fragment retains the hook clasp at one end (which would probably have originally slotted into an eye at the opposing end). The fragment carries multiple incised and stamped motifs consisting of short panels of incised diagonal lines, punched annulets in a rectangular border with fine diagonal lines either side. Late Roman copper alloy buckle, probably of 4th or early 5th century date (Worrell 2010, 416, no. 1, fig. 3). The buckle is complete, comprising a frame, pin or tongue and plate (with an overall length of 97mm and a weight of 72.8g). The buckle frame is zoomorphic with two horse's heads facing each other and meeting at the centre (with a maximum thickness of 5.5mm). The ears of the horse protrude at the sides (producing a maximum width for the frame of 42.9mm). A Dupondius of Claudius I (43-64) Reverse: CERES AVGVSTA SC Reference: as RIC I Claudius 110 Robert Kenyon, following on from the work by the French scholars P-A. Besombes and M. Bompaire (in Trésors Monétaires XXI, 2005), is working through the British examples of Claudian coinage recorded through the PAS assigning many so-called Claudian contemporary copies to Roman auxiliary mints which operated at Lyons (Gaul) and in Spain. This example could not be classified to a mint.
