A rim sherd from a copper alloy cooking pot, dating 1400-1700 AD. The fragment is smooth and black in colour. The edges where it has broken from the larger pot have been smoothened due to wear in the soil. The rim itself is triangular in cross section, and the fragment as a whole is P-shaped. Butler, Green and Payne (2009, p. 3) note how body fragments such as these are not uncommon finds, and often come from the outward curving of the rim which is a weak point. The curvature of the fragment often helps to identify the type of pot it came from, but this fragment is too small. Measu…

Four bodysherds and two rim sherds of greyware dating to the Roman period c AD 43-402.  The sherds are oxisided and all are reddish orange although one sherd appears to have a grey slip on the outer surface.   The size of the sherds means that it is not possible to identify the form of the vessel types, although the rim sherds may be from an upright bowl.
