A complete but bent Medieval copper alloy finger ring, probably dating to c. AD 1200 - 1450. The find has a sub circular bezel in which there is an irregular, sub oval, slightly purple coloured setting- possibly a gem, which stands proud of the bezel. There is a faint legend around the outside, which is rather illegible but appears to read, (+) (N/Z)_A_ENO(R/N) or +D(N/Z)_A_ENO(R/N)C. This may be a nonsensical legend and was only discernible when the find was damp, when initially found. The bezel itself sits proud of the hoop, but is integral with it.…

A complete, very worn post medieval copper-alloy finger ring, probably of belt and buckle style dating from c. AD 1600 - 1700. The hoop is slightly bent out of shape. It is wider at the bezel (8.84mm) and narrows at the opposing side (3.34mm). There are a row of five circular depressions running from shoulder to shoulder across the bezel which suggest his is probably a belt and buckle style finger ring, the depressions representive of holes where the buckle pin would engage. Any further detail is lost through corrosion. The metal surfa…

A complete Late Post Medieval gold finger ring, dating to c. AD 1800-1850. The hoop of the ring is slightly sub-circular in plan. The bezel has an orange/red glass sub-circular setting, with a slight blemish within the glass. The shoulders of the ring are decorated with a possible foliate design, but this is difficult to distinguish. The hoop has some old damage and there is a seam showing on the exterior of the hoop, caused during the manufacturing process. The interior of the hoop has a folded seam which is particularly in evidence at the base of the hoop, plus there are striati…

A fragment of a Roman copper alloy Henig Type VIII finger ring. The ring has a deep oval bezel with straight sided walls that have rustications on either side, this which would have mounted an intaglio. The shoulders are made from a dished, transverse oval panel that has an expanded and upturned point on the bottom edge.  the hoop has a triangular cross-section and narrow to the bottom edge. Unfortunately, one of the shoulders and about 70% of the hoop are now missing.
