Copper alloy girdle hanger. Cast E-shaped plate with slightly concave outer edges and a longer central stalk, broken at its upper end. A series of semi-circular stamps, each arc enclosing a dot and so resembling halved ring-and-dot, passes along the outer borders of the central stalk, follows the edges of the troughs on either side, and ascends the inner side of the outer elements. The series also runs intermittently on the outer sides of the latter. Extensive traces of white metal plating were observed during image processing. The girdle hanger was part of an object suite associated w…

Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Lead possible net sinker. A weight made by rolling a sub-rectangular scrap of cast sheet lead, probably achieving a slightly overlapping seam though this is now disrupted, perhaps by removal of the object from the selvedge of a net or, given that it is lighter than many formal parallels, from a fishing line, as is kindly suggested by the finder. At nearby Flixborough, tubular lead net weights were dated to the Middle Saxon period. Suggested date: possibly Early Medieval, 700-850

Copper alloy probable strap end. Cast tongue-shaped straight-sided plate with a rounded end and a straight end, with five drilled holes symmetrically disposed, probably Thomas Class E.
