Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A fragment of a Late Bronze Age copper-alloy gouge (1150 - 800 BC). The gouge consists of a semi-circular shaped blade tip. It is possible that this gouge was socketed, however there is no indication of a socket remaining. The blade is C-shaped in cross-section throughout its length and concave, with the hollow of the blade increasing towards the cutting-edge. The sides of the blade are slightly trapezoidal expanding towards the cutting edge which is rounded. The break is irregular and the reverse of the gouge is rounded.

An incomplete middle Bronze Age copper-alloy dirk, dating to c. 1700 - 1400 BC. Arreton or Acton Park phase. The dirk is almost complete, it is broken at each of the rivet holes. The hilt of the blade was originally trapezoidal in plan, some of the hilt is missing, it's mostly flat in cross section. It has a slightly convex butt. From the end of the hilt, it widens slightly before narrowing quickly in smooth concave arcs to the blade. It then narrows more gradually down its remaining length to end in a still sharp point. The dirk is flat at its hi…

Complete side looped Palstave axe, of Rowlands, M. J. (1976) class 2, group 1 trident, mid-green patination with areas of surface pitting, smooth surface in between. The flanges to the butt are set low and straight, starting to rise from the surface approx. 1/3 of the length of the septum, the highest point being where the flanges meet the stop ridge (32.9 mm), The blade is relatively narrow, hardly expanding at the cutting edge at all, the cutting edge itself is blunt, this and the lack of cutting edge expansion indicate this axe may have never been sharpened, though the condition of …
