Object type: RING
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: County of Herefordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Cast copper alloy ring of probable Roman - Modern date (50 - 1800). The ring is broadly circular in plan and lentoid (hexagonal) in cross section. The profile of the ring is slightly distorted, with thinner areas, possibly due to wear. There is no obvious cast or incised decoration present. The ring has a light - mid greenish grey patina with areas of the reddish brown alloy still showing. The patination of the metal would suggest a Medieval or later date. The function of the ring is varied and although it is worn a direct use cannot be attributed. The ring measures 30.3mm in diame…

Cast copper alloy harness pendant suspension mount dating from the 13th or 14th century AD. The mount is nearly complete, but the harness pendant is missing. The suspension mount consists of a horizontally aligned bar of triangular section. At either end of this bar would have been a narrow transverse ridge which gives way to a perforated lobe with a horizontal knop protruding from the end, but one of the lobes is now missing. Within the remining lobe's perforation is an in situ domed-head rivet, the right hand one of which also has in place a circular stop at the back. The pendant…

Object type: SPUR
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Cumbria
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Cast copper alloy spur dating from the post-medieval period, that is c. AD1500-1700. The object is a rowel spur with the main body still intact, but very worn. It would have had double attachment loops at the front, but they are now missing. The terminal of the spur still shows the split ends with perforated sides which would have held the star-shaped rowel in place, but that and its axis bar are now missing, too. The spur was undecorated except for a small moulding between the main body and the curved horizontal bar that held the rowel.
