An incomplete and misshapen lead alloy vat or tank, possibly dating to the Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) period (c. 750-c. 950). The handle, if it possessed one, is missing. Prior to being damaged, this vessel appears to have been circular in plan. From the base the sides flare outwards and upwards and the top is finished with a simple down-turned rim. The die is engraved with a central motif and has a surrounding partially illegible inscription. At the rear it has an integral suspension lug with a central raised rib along the longitudinal axis.
