An incomplete silver-gilt annular brooch of Medieval date (c. AD 1200 - c. AD 1400) Length: 42.2mm; width: 21.9mm. Weight: 3.09g. Treasure case no. 2008 T781. An incomplete and misshapen silver-gilt annular brooch. The hoop, circular in cross-section, is broken where it was soldered. It originally had four evenly spaced soldered plates at the front but only one of these plates has survived although the positions of the other three plates can be identified as solder marks. An incomplete cast lead cloth seal of Post-Medieval date. Probably sixteenth to eighteenth century. Length: 19.6mm; width: 17.8mm and 4.0mm thick. Wight: 3.66g. The seal consists of part of one disc and the rivet head. The rivet head has a raised letter W with curving raised lines below. The rear face of the incomplete disc has traces of a textile impression. Buff patina and old breaks. A similar cloth seal with a letter W is illustrated by Egan (Egan 1994, 84, fig. 32, ref. 236). This example is dated ?sixteenth to eighteenth century.
