Probably a Roman copper alloy key. It has a round bow which is now cracked through in one place. The shank is circular in section and terminates in a simple 'L' shaped ward. Some of the ward & shank has been lost. Its overall appearance is typical of medieval key but the wards are at right angles to the loop which is more a typically Roman characteristic. Probably dates to between c43 and c410 AD. The length is 39mm, width 16mm, thickness 15mm, and the weight 5.67g.
