A Medieval-Post Medieval C13-18th, crudely cast, copper alloy, medium size, annular ring. Thought to be, in most cases, a belt fitment, secured to waist belts normally with a leather thong, for suspending a purse, knife or similar object. Probably a multi-purpose item used by the poorer classes. Slightly flattened sexfoil cross-section with hand bevelled edges with some wear otherwise a dark green/brown patina with a little surface corrosion. This is likely to date between 1200-1799. Ref. Copper alloy ring that could be either a horse harness fitting from the Roman period or a ring buckle from the medieval period 40 - 1400AD. The ring has a cast round section with a smoothed surface and plain finish probably polished by wear. The mass indicates a solid casting. The diameter is 41mm and the weight 6.28g.
