An incomplete Neolithic flaked an polished flint axe. It is roughly triangular in shape, with largely straight sides and a slightly outwards curving blade end. Both faces are covered with scaled, covering retouch and have been partially polished on the ridges between the flaking scars. The blade end has also been polished to create a sharp cutting edge. There is an abrupt break across the butt end and its tip is missing. The flint is an opaque light grey in colour with some surface patination.

Probably a Medieval iron bearded axe. These were cheaply made and popular, widely available general-utility tools owned by many. As can be seen on this example, the socket was form simply by folding the tail of the axe over and welding it against one cheek to form a loop. The blade is sub-triangular in shape, with a sharpened curved edge. Dating for these seems vague as they were probably used throughout much of the Medieval period and maybe even earlier, but it probably dates from c.1000-1500 AD.
