An cast cast copper-alloy zoomorphic possible folding knife handle dating to the Roman period, c. 43-410 AD. The object survives virtually complete, though its attribution as a folding knife handle is problematic due to the fact that there is no slot within the handle itself for the knife blade to fold into, as is the usual with most other objects of this type. The object has a flattened rectangular-sectioned basal element, above which are rendered a rather stylised three-dimensional rendition of a hound chasing a hare, the hare having been apparently caught by the tail in this instan…
