Record ID: SF-99E067
Object type: STRAP FITTING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Essex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete gilded copper alloy post-medieval strap fitting. It is long and narrow in form with a trefoil terminal at one end and a fork at the other. There is a small circular attachment hole through each end. There is iron corrosion around the forked end and to the reverse and traces of gilding in places on the outer face. The surface of the metal is heavily corroded and it is bent at almost a right-angle when viewed from the side.
The object may have functioned as a strap end or possibly a book fitting. Its form and the presence of gilding suggest a post-medieval date.
